Cosmoprof highlights beauty industry’s hidden makers

The beauty industry’s most visible products, creams, perfumes, and makeup, are the result of years of unseen work. Cosmoprof Worldwide Bologna, the global leader in cosmetics trade events, is now spotlighting the people, processes, and collaborations that shape those products before they reach consumers. The initiative, called The Invisible Beauty, launches ahead of the 2027 edition, marking the event’s 60th anniversary.
The project reframes how the industry is perceived. For sixty years, Cosmoprof has made the evolution of the beauty industry visible, growing from an exhibition into a global platform for business, networking, and knowledge. The Invisible Beauty shifts attention to what happens behind the scenes: laboratory research, packaging design, supplier expertise, and the decisions that turn ideas into market-ready formulas. The goal is to recognize the collective effort that underpins the beauty sector’s growth.
Enrico Zannini, General Manager of BolognaFiere Cosmoprof, framed the project as an opportunity to reflect on the industry’s evolution. Cosmoprof Worldwide Bologna’s 60th anniversary is not only an important milestone, but above all an opportunity to reflect on what has made this journey possible and on what will continue to drive the evolution of our industry. The initiative aims to highlight the interconnected nature of the beauty system, where success depends on relationships, experimentation, and shared expertise.

The project will unfold through five storytelling pillars, each exploring a different facet of the industry’s unseen work. Invisible People will profile the professionals, scientists, designers, and technicians, whose skills go unnoticed but are essential to product development. Invisible Match will examine how chance encounters and collaborations spark innovation, while Invisible Failure will celebrate the role of setbacks in driving progress.
Invisible Value will quantify the industry’s broader impact, emphasizing its role in economic growth and international development. Finally, Invisible Future will project trends and technologies currently in development, offering a glimpse into what may define the sector’s next phase.
A core part of the effort is a photographic exhibition featuring portraits of Cosmoprof employees, the staff who organize the event year after year. The images will humanize the behind-the-scenes effort, inviting attendees to recognize the people who make the exhibition possible. The exhibition will premiere during the 2027 press conference, accompanied by an original short film.

The film will invite viewers to look beyond what is immediately visible and discover the time, attempts, relationships, perseverance, and choices behind every path to success. A symbolic narrative intertwining individual experience with the collective memory of the beauty industry, it will accompany Cosmoprof towards its 60th anniversary.
The beauty industry operates as an ecosystem where every component, from raw materials to retail, depends on the others. A formulation breakthrough in a lab requires supplier partnerships, packaging solutions, and market feedback to become a commercial product.
