Ella Bright Debuts Dark Espresso Hair at VMA
The 2026 MTV Video Music Awards marked a bold hair transformation for actress Ella Bright, who stepped onto the red carpet with a new seasonal color that reflects current industry trends. Bright, known for her role as Hannah Wells in Amazon’s series Off Campus, had previously favored a mid-tone brown with warm reddish undertones, both on-screen and in her personal style. This time, she opted for a deep espresso shade, positioned between chocolate brown and black, that appears nearly black under certain lighting conditions. The look included a center part, soft waves cascading past her collarbone, and a maple-brown lip treatment that enhanced the richness of the hue.
Industry experts highlighted this shift toward darker, more saturated tones for autumn. Richy Kandasamy, a New York City-based hairstylist and vice president of color development for R+Co, previously told Allure, “It’s about creating that richness, reflection, and incredible shine.” He added, “Ask your colorist for a rich, dimensional brunette that reflects light and looks glossy, not flat or overly dark.”
