The Galeries introduces three limited-edition fragrances in collaboration with retail partners.

The fragrance industry is shifting away from the traditional bottle-and-counter format, with brands increasingly prioritizing immersive retail experiences, home fragrance products, and highly concentrated scents. These developments are altering consumer expectations while driving both luxury and accessibility in fresh directions.

Retailers become fragrance brands

The Australian department store chain The Galeries has launched three limited-edition fragrances in collaboration with three retail partners. Each fragrance is housed in a 295ml soy-wax candle with natural ingredients, hand-poured in Japanese ceramic vessels.

The Incu scent blends fir needle, oak moss, cedar, and sandalwood, while Salomon combines pine, cedarwood, sage, myrrh, and palo santo. The Books Kinokuniya fragrance reflects its Japanese heritage through hinoki, amber, macadamia, lemon, and frankincense. This initiative runs from September 29 to October 25, with customers receiving a free candle after spending $300 in a single day at The Galeries.

The project marks the first under The Galeries’ new Presents platform, which merges retail experiences with curated collaborations. This approach reflects a broader industry trend where fragrance moves beyond bottles into immersive brand storytelling.

Gourmand reinventions and premiumization

YSL Beauty has expanded its Black Opium franchise with a new gourmand variation. The Black Opium Eau de Parfum Pink Glaze introduces natural strawberry extract layered over the original’s coffee-floral profile, combining strawberry with jasmine, black coffee, Bourbon vanilla, and woody amber. The 50ml version is priced at $230.

The launch also introduces actor Alisha Boe as the new face of Black Opium, with a campaign directed by C Prinz. The bottle features translucent pink glass with a black central window and a metallic Cassandre logo, reinforcing the brand’s signature aesthetic.

Givenchy has strengthened its L’Interdit line with L’Interdit Elixir, a richer interpretation blending fruit, white florals, woods, and gourmand notes. Black cherry and bitter almond open the fragrance, followed by jasmine, orange blossom, and tuberose, with rum absolute, davana essence, vanilla, cocoa, and benzoin adding depth. Available in 50ml and 80ml sizes, prices range from $230 to $274.

These moves reflect an industry-wide shift toward gourmand reinventions, where brands combine familiar notes—strawberry, coffee, chocolate, pineapple, and vanilla—with unexpected twists to attract younger, experience-driven consumers.

Australian fragrance house Goldfield & Banks marked its 10th anniversary with Pacific Rock Swell, a 30% Extrait de Parfum launched globally on October 1. The marine-woody scent builds on its Pacific Rock Moss predecessor, featuring bergamot, cardamom, and clary sage leading into seaweed, geranium, and fir balsam. Pricing starts at $75 for 10ml and reaches $375 for 100ml.

Kilian Paris introduced The Cocktails, a three-piece collection inspired by cocktails, Kir Royal, Piña Colada, and Espresso Martini. Each scent is priced at $150 for 75ml, blending spirits-inspired notes like Moroccan mint, pineapple, and Arabica coffee with floral and woody accords.

Amouage has pushed concentration to new extremes with two additions to its The Exceptional Extraits line. Decision 42, at a 42% concentration, sharpens neroli, cardamom, and cinnamon, while juniper is combined with Javanol, patchouli, and rectified pine tar for a darker, smokier profile. Overture 41, dosed at 41%, sees perfumer Annick Ménardo amplify saffron, Calvados, and rose, with Sandalwood Drèches adding further depth. Both are priced at $899 for 100ml, available through Libertine Parfumerie.

Sol de Janeiro has redefined body mist with its Cheirosa Intense Perfume Mist, a higher-concentration format designed to last up to 10 hours. The four-fragrance collection bridges traditional mist and fine fragrance, with each scent built around a solar ambery accord. Internal data shows one Cheirosa Perfume Mist is sold every second worldwide.

A new line of Cheirosa fragrances has been released in an intensified perfume mist format, extending wear time to up to 10 hours. Each fragrance blends unique note combinations, including roasted pistachio and vanilla, white orchid and creamy sandalwood, Rio Pink Rose and lychee, and ripe pineapple with orange flower.

The higher-concentration formula aims to fill the gap between traditional body mist and fine fragrance. The line represents an expansion of the Cheirosa brand’s reach while maintaining its signature scent profile.
