Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia – The United States (US) will reportedly send an aircraft carrier to the eastern region of South Korea (South Korea). This was done in the midst of heating up relations between Seoul and North Korea (North Korea).
To quote express, a report states the possibility. The aircraft carrier is the USS Ronald Reagan which was also deployed because of the joint military exercises that are currently being held with South Korea.
“SkyNews reports that the carrier Strike Group Five aircraft carrier Ronald Reagan has 90 fixed wing aircraft and helicopters,” the report states.
Previously, nuclear-armed North Korea conducted a medium-range ballistic missile (IRBM) test on Tuesday (4/10/2022). The missile was aimed at Japan for the first time in five years and triggered warnings for residents there to take cover.
US President Joe Biden and Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida strongly condemned Pyongyang’s test. While the European Union (EU) called it a reckless and deliberately provocative act.
UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres also condemned the launch. He said it was a violation of Security Council resolutions.
Meanwhile, Washington and Seoul fired missiles in response at North Korea on Wednesday. Each side fired a pair of US-made ATACMS short-range ballistic missiles.
However, one of the missiles, South Korea’s Hyunmoo-2 failed shortly after launch and crashed. There were no victims in that incident.
It should be noted that South and North Korea remain technically at war after the 1950-1953 Korean War ended. The two countries only had a truce and never signed a peace treaty.
